The best T-Shirt

April 10, 2025

I recently bought Bryan Johnson’s Super Veggie T-Shirt, in order to fully immerse myself in his protocol.

It was $37—not a terrible price—and I think it looks cool. But once I receieved it, I noticed that the quality was markedly better than any other t-shirts I own, even those that were double the price. Hence, my quest for the best tee. The goal is to optimize for the quality/cost ratio. As a starting point, I’m looking at only 6.1 oz/yd^2 tees, the same weight as the super veggie one. For convenience, I’m only going to review those available on Amazon.

Pro Club Heavyweight

This was ~$12. This has the feel of thick steamed linen. It’s relatively rough to the touch, but is nice and thick. Shrunk slightly post wash, but the material held up nicely. Rating: 7/10.

Hanes Beefy Tee

This was ~$8. It’s much softer than Pro Club, and subjectively feels thicker. The fit is closer to the skin, which I don’t prefer. Held up great post-wash. Rating: 8/10.

Comfort Colors 1717

These range from ~$6 to ~$12 on Amazon, and they’re the sourcer for the Super Veggie tee! I bought a few of these, and I noticed the sizing was a bit inconsistent. They have a vintage/faded look to them, which I like, and the material softness is in between Beefy and Pro Club. By default, it tends to be more wrinkly than the other two. I like the feel of wearing this much more than the others; it’s breathable and has a nice medium-weight feel. Rating: 9/10

Los Angeles Apparel

This was $26—the priciest of the bunch. It was not worth it. A single wash wrinkled the color and shrinkage was heavy. The feel is maybe 10% softer than Pro Club. Not impressed.
